A ring is bought once, from a stranger, on the internet. This page is where we tell you exactly what we know about you and how to make us forget it.

Who is asking
Trothe Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 17431230 sells made to order rings from the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for everything described here, which means the decisions on this page are ours and the responsibility for them is ours.
Email hello@trothe.co.uk about anything on this page and a person reads it.
Our registered office, and postal address for correspondence and service of documents, is Lytchett House, 13 Freeland Park, Wareham Road, Poole, Dorset, BH16 6FA.
What we collect, and only when you hand it over
There is no account to create and nothing to log into. We hold what you type into a form and nothing else about you.
- Your email address, when you join the opening list or use the contact form. Held so we can reply and so we can tell you when the shop opens.
- Your name, postal address and postcode, only if you ask us to post you a ring sizer. Held so we can post it.
- Your wedding date, if you tell us, so we know whether a lead time actually works for you before you commit to it.
- Which ring you were looking at and anything you write in the message box, so a reply makes sense without asking you to repeat yourself.
We do not buy lists, we do not enrich what you give us against anything else, and we have never sold data to anybody. There is no legitimate-interests argument buried further down this page that quietly undoes that sentence.
Card details, which we never see
Checkout runs on a specialist payment provider's systems. Your card number is entered there, is handled under their PCI DSS certification, and never reaches this website or any computer of ours. We receive the order, the delivery address and confirmation that it was paid, and nothing else. That is a deliberate design choice and it is the single best thing about not building our own checkout. You will see whose systems they are the moment you reach checkout, and you can ask us beforehand.
Cookies, and the one we actually set
Nothing is stored on your device until you press Accept on the banner. If you accept, our analytics provider sets one cookie that counts you as a single returning visitor rather than two new ones. That is the whole purpose. We look at which guides get read and which do not, so we know what to write next.
If you decline, analytics stays switched off and we receive an anonymous, cookieless ping instead. Your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage under trothe-consent. Clearing your site data brings the banner back.
When you scan the QR code on a card from us, we count the scan: which card, which page it opened and when. Nothing about you or your device is recorded, and nothing is stored on your device, so it works the same whether or not you accept the banner.
We run no advertising cookies, no remarketing pixels, no Meta pixel and no session recording. Nothing here follows you to another website.
Who else touches it
A small number of established suppliers process your data on our behalf, each doing one job we would otherwise have to build badly. Here is what they are for and where the data goes.
| What for | What that covers | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Running this website | Serving the pages and keeping request logs | Global CDN |
| Holding what you send us | The opening list, contact messages and sizer requests | UK and EU |
| Knowing what to write next | Counting page visits, only after you accept | UK, EU and US |
| Taking your order | Checkout, payment and the order record | UK, EU and US |
We have not named them here, and you can have the names. Publishing our whole supplier list on this page serves nobody who reads it, so this describes what each one is for instead. If you want to know exactly who they are, email hello@trothe.co.uk and we will tell you. That is not a formality: a request for your own data has to be answered in full, names included.
Transfers outside the UK rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, which is the mechanism these providers publish and the one the ICO recognises.
How long we keep it
- Opening list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Every email we send has a one click unsubscribe and it works immediately.
- Order records: six years after the order, because HMRC requires it of anyone trading. This one we cannot delete on request and we would be lying if we said otherwise.
- Contact messages: two years, so we can pick up a conversation about a ring you bought.
- Analytics: fourteen months, then Google deletes it automatically.
Your rights, and how to use them without a solicitor
Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of everything we hold on you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to stop using it, or object to what we are doing with it. Email hello@trothe.co.uk and say which. No form, no proof of identity theatre beyond checking you are writing from the address we hold, and an answer inside thirty days.
If we get it wrong you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. You do not have to raise it with us first, though we would rather you did, because we can actually fix it.
The legal basis, briefly
Fulfilling your order is performance of a contract. Keeping order records for six years is a legal obligation. The opening list and the analytics cookie run on your consent, which you can take back at any time. Replying to a message you sent us is our legitimate interest in answering our own post.
