Prices include UK delivery and engraving. Weights are estimates for a plain 6mm band at UK size N with a 1.6mm wall (how they are worked out); the solid gold bands carry the maker's own weight on each ring's page. Surface hardness is on the Mohs scale, where a higher number resists fine scratches better.
Anodised zirconium grows colour out of its own surface under electrical current; nothing is painted or plated, but the coloured surface needs protection from abrasion. Black zirconium cut back to bright metal at the edges gives a two tone ring made from one metal. Wood set into titanium, a fingerprint cut at depth, a date in Roman numerals around the whole band: personal rather than catalogue.
One thing worth knowing that is not a ring: platinum costs less than 18ct gold here, from both makers who have quoted us, which is not what most people expect. Gold's rise has put an 18ct mount above a platinum one, so the metal most people assume is the expensive choice is the cheaper of the two.
About unique
- Is anodised colour permanent?
- Anodised colour comes from a surface oxide film and can be damaged by abrasion. Ask for cleaning instructions and confirmation of restoration options for the exact finish and ring.
- How does the fingerprint ring work?
- We send an ink kit, you send back the print, and it is laser cut into the band at real depth. It is the one ring here that cannot be made twice.
- What makes a ring unique rather than just unusual?
- Something a high street jeweller cannot make or will not stock: colour grown out of the metal, a stone that changes colour with the light, a fingerprint cut at depth, an included sapphire described honestly. Every ring on this page has that reason written on its own page, and a ring without one is not here.
