Gold rings, metal by metal
50 bands and 2 stone set rings in 3 metals. The least expensive is the gold line, titanium at £385. The widest go to 10mm. 8 cost under £500.
| Metal | Rings | Price | Widths | Surface | 6mm band, est. |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Titanium with a precious inlay | 14 | £385 to £795 | 4 to 10mm | Mohs 6 | 2.2g |
| 9ct gold | 32 | £515 to £719 | 2 to 7mm | Mohs 3.5 | Stated per ring |
| Black zirconium with a precious inlay | 4 | £575 to £625 | 4 to 10mm | Mohs 8 | 3.2g |
Prices include UK delivery and engraving. Weights are estimates for a plain 6mm band at UK size N with a 1.6mm wall (how they are worked out); the solid gold bands carry the maker's own weight on each ring's page. Surface hardness is on the Mohs scale, where a higher number resists fine scratches better.
Gold comes three ways here. As a solid band in 9ct or 18ct, from 2mm up to 7mm, plain or cut with a pattern, with the weight in grams printed on every page so you know what you are buying. As an inlay: a channel machined into titanium or black zirconium and filled with solid 9ct gold, flush with the surface and hallmarked, which puts real gold on the face of the ring at a fraction of the weight a whole band needs. And as the mount of a stone ring, where 9ct, 14ct and 18ct in yellow, white or rose are a choice at checkout.
Gold has risen by more than a third in a year and it shows in every gold band on the high street, which is why the solid bands here are light ones and the page says so in grams rather than leaving you to guess. Gold above one gram must be hallmarked by law, and everything here is. A few heavier profiles are still listed without prices at the bottom, waiting on a maker who can make them at a retail we would be happy to defend.
About gold rings
- What is the difference between 9ct and 18ct gold?
- 9ct is 37.5 per cent gold and 18ct is 75 per cent. 18ct is richer in colour and heavier; 9ct is harder wearing and roughly half the metal cost. Both are hallmarked, both are resizable by any jeweller, and both are real gold.
- Is an inlaid gold ring real gold?
- Yes. The inlay is a solid strip of 9ct gold set flush into a channel in the base metal, not a plating, and it carries a hallmark. The base metal is not precious, and the mixed metal mark says so.
- How heavy are the solid gold bands?
- Between about one gram and four, depending on the width and how much the pattern cuts away. Every ring's page states its own weight in 9ct and in 18ct, because weight is most of what a gold ring costs and it is the number most shops leave out.
