The contract
Terms of sale
What you are agreeing to when you buy a ring from us, in the order it actually matters, with the part that limits your rights near the top rather than buried at clause nineteen.
Last updated 5 September 2026
1. Who you are buying from
Trothe Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 17431230, trading from the United Kingdom. Contact: hello@trothe.co.uk.
Registered office, and postal address for correspondence and service of documents: Lytchett House, 13 Freeland Park, Wareham Road, Poole, Dorset, BH16 6FA. It is a mail handling address, so nothing should be posted back to it: when you are returning a ring we send you the address to use, with a prepaid label, as soon as you tell us.
We are not currently VAT registered, so no VAT is charged and none is recoverable on our invoices.
2. Everything is made to order
We hold no stock. When you order, a ring is made for you in your size, in the material you chose, and it takes 14 to 21 working days before it is posted. That is the honest number, not a best case. If a workshop tells us it will run longer we tell you the same day we find out, and you can cancel for a full refund at that point whatever the reason.
3. When the contract starts
Adding a ring to your bag is not an order and neither is reaching the checkout. The contract exists when we send you an order confirmation email. Until that email lands we can decline an order, and we will refund you in full if we do. The reasons that actually happen are a pricing error, a material a workshop has withdrawn, or a size outside what a design can be made in.
4. Price
Prices include UK delivery and free engraving. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay, and we do not add anything at the end.
If we have published a price that is obviously wrong and you could reasonably have spotted it, we are not bound by it. We will tell you before making anything and you can pay the right price or have a full refund.
5. Sizing, which is your part of the job
You choose the size. Our size finder is free, takes two minutes and exists precisely so this decision is made carefully. Choose I do not know yet and we will confirm with you before anything is made.
Do not rely on an unconfirmed future resize. Titanium and black zirconium need specialist assessment; some designs may have options, while others need a remake. Gold, platinum and palladium designs can offer conventional resizing, but stones and construction can limit the work. No resizing service is promised by this guidance. This is explained on the returns page and it is worth two minutes of your time before you order.
6. Cancelling, and the engraving exception
You have 30 days from delivery to change your mind about a band for any reason at all. That is more than double the fourteen days the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 give you. A stone set ring has 14 days, the statutory period, because a specific stone is bought for you against its certificate the moment you order; the returns page explains why. We pay return postage, the ring travels insured, and the refund goes back to your original payment method within five working days of it reaching us.
An engraved ring cannot be returned for a change of mind. Engraving makes the ring personalised to you, which takes it outside the statutory cancellation right under regulation 28(1)(b) of those Regulations, and it means the ring cannot be sold to anyone else afterwards. Every ring retailer draws this line in the same place. We put it on the product page next to the engraving box, before you type anything, rather than in the small print afterwards. Leave engraving blank and the full 30 days apply.
Where to send it. Not to the correspondence address above, which cannot take parcels. Email us, or use the contact form with your order number, and within a working day we send a prepaid, insured label and the address it goes to. Wait for that before posting anything.
To cancel, email hello@trothe.co.uk. A sentence is enough; there is no form to complete and you do not have to give a reason.
7. If something is wrong with the ring
This is a different thing from changing your mind and no engraving affects it. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 a ring must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If it is not:
- Inside 30 days you can reject it outright and have your money back.
- Inside six months we repair or replace it, and the fault is presumed to have been there from the start unless we can show otherwise.
- Up to six years you still have a claim for a fault that was present when it was made.
Nobody can sign these rights away, and nothing on this page tries to.
Normal wear is not a fault. Any ring worn daily picks up fine scratches, and on a matt or brushed finish that is the finish maturing rather than damage. Zirconium's black surface is an oxide layer grown into the metal, not a coating that can peel, but a deep gouge does reach the pale metal underneath.
8. Hallmarking
Precious metal rings above the statutory weight thresholds are hallmarked at a UK Assay Office as the Hallmarking Act 1973 requires. Titanium, zirconium and other contemporary metals are not precious metals and are not hallmarked, which is the law working correctly rather than a corner being cut. The hallmarks guide explains what each mark means.
9. Delivery and risk
UK delivery is included, sent insured and signed for. The ring is our responsibility until it is delivered to the address you gave us. Full detail, including what happens to a missed delivery, is on the delivery page.
10. Complaints and disputes
Email hello@trothe.co.uk first. We would far rather fix something than argue about it.
If we cannot settle it between us, you may take a dispute to an approved independent dispute resolution (ADR) provider, and you keep every right to go to court instead. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and nothing here removes a right you have as a consumer under UK law.
