Each ring is built the same way: a white gold centre held between yellow gold edges, four millimetres across. What changes is the surface of that white centre. On hers it is frosted into a fine sparkle, so it glitters softly and reads almost pale against the yellow. On his it is polished flat and bright, a clean mirror between the rails. Side by side on two hands, the shared structure says they belong together and the two finishes say they belong to different people: one catches light in points, the other in a single sweep.

Both rings come in 9ct or 18ct. In a two tone ring the carat shows most in the yellow: 18ct is the richer colour, so the line between yellow rail and white centre looks more pronounced, while 9ct is the harder alloy and the lighter ring.
