One design worn twice, once light and once dark. Both rings are flat bands divided into segments, each set with eight 3 point round brilliant cut diamonds, 2mm across, SI clarity and G to H colour. A point is a hundredth of a carat, so each ring carries 0.24 carats of diamond and the pair 0.48 carats between them. On the titanium ring the stones sit in light grey metal between chamfered edges. On the black zirconium ring they are white on black, framed by two edges cut back to bright natural metal. Side by side, the segments and stones line up as one pattern in two tones.
Both rings are made in every width from 6mm to 10mm. Either can be bought on its own. Titanium is the lighter of the two: in UK size N it comes to about 2.2g at 6mm, 2.9g at 8mm and 3.6g at 10mm, against about 3.2g, 4.2g and 5.3g for black zirconium (4.5 and 6.5 grams per cubic centimetre). Black zirconium has the harder surface, around Mohs 8 against 6 for titanium, so its satin face keeps its finish longer. The diamonds, at Mohs 10, are harder than either metal. Both metals are hypoallergenic.

Start with tone: titanium for a ring you barely notice on the hand, black zirconium for contrast and a little more weight. Then the widths, which need not match. A narrower band keeps the eight stones close to its edges; a wider one gives them a broader field of metal. Either ring works as an engagement ring and then as a wedding ring, so the pair can be bought one ring at a time.
