Timing questions
- How far in advance should you order wedding rings?
- Three months before the wedding is comfortable, six weeks is the realistic minimum, and two weeks is cutting it fine enough that a resize would not fit. A made-to-order ring takes two to three weeks, and the risk is not the making, it is discovering the size is wrong with no time to correct it.
- How long does a wedding ring take to make?
- Two to three weeks for a made-to-order ring in your size. A stock ring ships faster but only in the sizes and widths that happen to be in the drawer, which is the trade you are making.
- When should I order an engagement ring before proposing?
- Allow four weeks. Three for the ring, one for the fact you will change your mind about something. Set stones take longer than plain bands because the stone is chosen individually before anything is set.
- What if my rings arrive and the size is wrong?
- You get a free replacement, and that is the reason to build slack into the date rather than the reason not to worry about it. A replacement is another two to three weeks.
- Can wedding rings be rushed?
- Sometimes, and it costs goodwill rather than money. Ask before you order rather than after, because the honest answer depends on what else is on the bench that fortnight.
