About this ring

Mosaic, his: 6mm in 9ct or 18ct gold, in detail

A 6mm gold band built from small blocks, polished set against textured, in a continuous pattern round the finger. Close up it has the order of a mosaic floor; from a step back the contrast between bright and matte squares turns into a fine, even shimmer. It shares that pattern with the women's ring but carries a little more metal, about 2g in 9ct against 1.8g, so it sits slightly firmer on the hand. The interest is all in the surface: the profile stays simple, and the blocks do the talking.

How it wears

For a hand that works, this is a practical face. 9ct gold sits at Mohs 3.5 and will mark, but a surface divided into polished and textured blocks hides those marks better than a fully polished one, because the eye never settles on one continuous shine. When the polished blocks dull with use, they polish back. The rounded comfort fit inside keeps a 6mm width easy through long days.

Choosing yours

With 6mm as the only width, the decision is the carat. In 9ct, roughly 2g, the ring is the harder and lighter option. In 18ct, roughly 2.8g, it is denser in gold and noticeably heavier, for someone who likes a ring with some weight to it.

A 6mm mosaic suits broader hands and anyone who wants a wedding ring with pattern rather than shine. It pairs with Mosaic, hers, and the two can be ordered together as a set.

The metal, in brief

37.5% gold against 18ct's 75%, so roughly half the metal cost in a year when bullion set an all time record. It is also the harder alloy of the two, which matters more on a ring worn daily than the carat number does. Fully hallmarked, with resizing options that depend on the finished design, and a British standard that has been sold here for over a century.

Surface hardness Mohs 3.5, density 11.2 g/cm³. As a precious metal it is hallmarked under UK law.

About Mosaic, his: 6mm in 9ct or 18ct gold

Can this ring be resized?
A plain 9ct gold band may suit conventional resizing, but the metal alone does not establish a safe size range. Stones, settings, pattern and condition can restrict an alteration; full eternity is not the only difficult design. GIA warns against stretching platinum bands containing stones. Have the finished ring assessed for the size and direction of change, and confirm the method, finish, cost and timing before work begins.
How long will it take?
About 4 weeks. It is made in your size after you order rather than picked off a shelf, in the one width this design is made in.
What is closest to the Mosaic, his in the range?
Horizontal textured, hers (9ct gold) and Linear ribbed, his (9ct gold). The comparison table on this page sets them side by side on metal, width, hardness and price.
