Scrollwork, 5mm in 9ct or 18ct gold
From £549
A scrolling beaded motif down the centre, fine bead texture at each edge.
Five millimetres carrying a scrolling beaded motif down the centre of the band, with a fine granulated texture along both edges. The motif is worked into the face of the band rather than raised above it, so nothing stands proud of the surface to catch. About 1.3g in 9ct and 1.8g in 18ct: the cut work takes metal out, which is why a patterned 5mm weighs slightly less than the plain 4mm.

About this ring
Scrollwork, 5mm in 9ct or 18ct gold, in detail
Five millimetres with a scrolling motif of beads running down the centre of the band and a fine granulated texture along each edge. The pattern is cut into the face rather than raised from it, so the ring keeps a smooth outline while the surface carries a great deal of detail. Under the satin finish the scroll reads as a soft, continuous movement around the finger, and the beaded edges frame it like the border on an old piece of silver. It is ornament worked into the metal, with no stone needed.
How it wears
Because the motif is worked into the band, nothing stands proud to catch on fabric or take the brunt of a knock. Pattern is also kind to daily wear. 9ct gold marks at Mohs 3.5, and on a face this busy fine scratches disappear into the texture instead of drawing the eye. Over time the high points of the beading soften slightly, which gives the scroll the gentle look of something long worn and well kept.
Choosing yours
There is one width, 5mm, which gives the scroll enough room to read clearly. Despite the width it is light, about 1.3g in 9ct and 1.8g in 18ct, because the cut work takes metal out. 18ct deepens the colour, which suits the antique feel of the pattern; 9ct is harder and holds the crisp edges of the beading a little longer. It suits someone drawn to ornament and to old fashioned rings, and it pairs naturally with the Milgrain edge, which speaks the same beaded language more plainly.

The metal, in brief
37.5% gold against 18ct's 75%, so roughly half the metal cost in a year when bullion set an all time record. It is also the harder alloy of the two, which matters more on a ring worn daily than the carat number does. Fully hallmarked, with resizing options that depend on the finished design, and a British standard that has been sold here for over a century.
Surface hardness Mohs 3.5, density 11.2 g/cm³. As a precious metal it is hallmarked under UK law.

About Scrollwork, 5mm in 9ct or 18ct gold
- Can this ring be resized?
- A plain 9ct gold band may suit conventional resizing, but the metal alone does not establish a safe size range. Stones, settings, pattern and condition can restrict an alteration; full eternity is not the only difficult design. GIA warns against stretching platinum bands containing stones. Have the finished ring assessed for the size and direction of change, and confirm the method, finish, cost and timing before work begins.
- How long will it take?
- About 4 weeks. It is made in your size after you order rather than picked off a shelf, in the one width this design is made in.
- What is closest to the Scrollwork in the range?
- Contrast texture, hers (9ct gold) and Faceted vega, his (9ct gold). The comparison table on this page sets them side by side on metal, width, hardness and price.
- What if I get the size wrong?
- Return it inside 14 days and we refund it, and we pay the postage. Use the free ring size finder first if you are unsure, and if the ring is a surprise, ask us and we will talk you through the ways to find out without asking them.
