Slim band, 2mm in 9ct or 18ct gold
From £515
Two millimetres of solid gold, narrow enough to sit close to an engagement ring.
A fine round band, about 0.9g in 9ct and 1.3g in 18ct. Two millimetres is the width to choose when a wedding ring has to sit against an engagement ring without competing with it, and it is slim enough to wear on its own. 9ct is 37.5% gold and the harder of the two alloys; 18ct is 75% gold, which is where the deeper, warmer colour comes from.

About this ring
Slim band, 2mm in 9ct or 18ct gold, in detail
Two millimetres of round, polished gold, the narrowest plain band in the range and the simplest. The profile is fully rounded, so from the side it looks like a drawn wire of light rather than a strip of metal. There is no pattern, no edge detail and no stone. What the slim band offers is proportion: a line of gold that settles next to an engagement ring without crowding it, and still looks complete when worn on its own, as a fine ring for someone who likes very little on the hand.
How it wears
Under a gram in 9ct, about 0.9g, it is easy to forget it is there. Gold is soft, Mohs 3.5 for 9ct, and a narrow band shows wear sooner simply because there is less metal to carry it. Fine marks are normal and polish out. 9ct is the harder of the two alloys, which counts for something on a band that sits against an engagement ring all day and meets it with every movement of the hand.
Choosing yours
With one width, the decision is the carat. 9ct is 37.5% gold, the harder alloy, with a paler yellow. 18ct is 75% gold, softer, a little heavier at about 1.3g, and noticeably deeper and warmer in colour. Beside an engagement ring, matching that ring's gold matters more than either number, because two yellows of different carats can look quite different side by side. Worn alone, the 18ct gives the narrow line a little more presence on the finger.
The width
| Width | How it reads |
|---|---|
| 2mm | Slim and fine, sits easily beside an engagement ring |
Carat by carat
| Gold | Weight | Price, delivered |
|---|---|---|
| 9ct gold | About 0.9g | £515 |
| 18ct gold | About 1.3g | £689 |
The design and width are the same in each; the gold changes the colour depth, the weight and the hallmark. 9ct or 18ct gold, compared.

The metal, in brief
37.5% gold against 18ct's 75%, so roughly half the metal cost in a year when bullion set an all time record. It is also the harder alloy of the two, which matters more on a ring worn daily than the carat number does. Fully hallmarked, with resizing options that depend on the finished design, and a British standard that has been sold here for over a century.
Surface hardness Mohs 3.5, density 11.2 g/cm³. As a precious metal it is hallmarked under UK law.

About Slim band, 2mm in 9ct or 18ct gold
- Can this ring be resized?
- A plain 9ct gold band may suit conventional resizing, but the metal alone does not establish a safe size range. Stones, settings, pattern and condition can restrict an alteration; full eternity is not the only difficult design. GIA warns against stretching platinum bands containing stones. Have the finished ring assessed for the size and direction of change, and confirm the method, finish, cost and timing before work begins.
- How long will it take?
- About 4 weeks. It is made in your size after you order rather than picked off a shelf, in the one width this design is made in.
- What is closest to the Slim band in the range?
- Faceted vega, hers (9ct gold) and Hammered gold (9ct gold). The comparison table on this page sets them side by side on metal, width, hardness and price.
- What if I get the size wrong?
- Return it inside 14 days and we refund it, and we pay the postage. Use the free ring size finder first if you are unsure, and if the ring is a surprise, ask us and we will talk you through the ways to find out without asking them.
