Hammered gold, 4mm in 9ct or 18ct gold
From £529
Hammered all over, so there is no mirror panel to keep perfect.
Four millimetres worked all over in a fine hammered texture, so the surface is a field of small facets rather than one mirror. It is a forgiving finish on a ring worn every day: a scratch on a polished band announces itself, and on a hammered one it joins in. About 1.1g in 9ct and 1.5g in 18ct, among the lightest of the gold bands.

About this ring
Hammered gold, 4mm in 9ct or 18ct gold, in detail
Four millimetres hammered all over, so the face is a field of small, shallow facets rather than a single polished plane. Each facet catches the light at its own angle, and the band shimmers unevenly, the way water does when a breeze crosses it. It looks made by hand and slightly organic, with no mirror panel and no flat face anywhere. Among the gold bands it is the one designed as much around daily life as around looks, which gives it an unfussy confidence.
How it wears
This is the gold band that forgives. On a polished ring a scratch stands alone against the mirror; on a hammered one it is another small mark among many, and the texture takes it in. 9ct gold still marks at Mohs 3.5, but the marks simply join the finish. Over the years the high points soften and gain a gentle shine, which suits it. At about 1.1g in 9ct it sits lightly on the finger.
Choosing yours
One width, 4mm, comfortable on a slimmer or a broader finger alike. The carat choice is mostly about colour: 18ct is warmer and slightly heavier at about 1.5g, while 9ct is paler and harder. It suits someone who works with their hands, someone who dislikes fuss, and anyone who has watched a polished band dull and wished it had texture. Paired with a partner's Ripple or Wide court, it gives two people different surfaces in the same gold.
The width
| Width | How it reads |
|---|---|
| 4mm | Slim, the quietest everyday width |
Carat by carat
| Gold | Weight | Price, delivered |
|---|---|---|
| 9ct gold | About 1.1g | £529 |
| 18ct gold | About 1.5g | £729 |
The design and width are the same in each; the gold changes the colour depth, the weight and the hallmark. 9ct or 18ct gold, compared.

The metal, in brief
37.5% gold against 18ct's 75%, so roughly half the metal cost in a year when bullion set an all time record. It is also the harder alloy of the two, which matters more on a ring worn daily than the carat number does. Fully hallmarked, with resizing options that depend on the finished design, and a British standard that has been sold here for over a century.
Surface hardness Mohs 3.5, density 11.2 g/cm³. As a precious metal it is hallmarked under UK law.

About Hammered gold, 4mm in 9ct or 18ct gold
- Can this ring be resized?
- A plain 9ct gold band may suit conventional resizing, but the metal alone does not establish a safe size range. Stones, settings, pattern and condition can restrict an alteration; full eternity is not the only difficult design. GIA warns against stretching platinum bands containing stones. Have the finished ring assessed for the size and direction of change, and confirm the method, finish, cost and timing before work begins.
- How long will it take?
- About 4 weeks. It is made in your size after you order rather than picked off a shelf, in the one width this design is made in.
- What is closest to the Hammered gold in the range?
- Minimal edge, hers (9ct gold) and Faceted vega, hers (9ct gold). The comparison table on this page sets them side by side on metal, width, hardness and price.
- What if I get the size wrong?
- Return it inside 14 days and we refund it, and we pay the postage. Use the free ring size finder first if you are unsure, and if the ring is a surprise, ask us and we will talk you through the ways to find out without asking them.
