Fingerprint

From £249

Their actual fingerprint, laser cut into the band.

We send an ink kit, you send it back, and the print is reproduced at depth in the metal. It is the only ring here that literally cannot be made twice, and it is the one people get most emotional about.

About this ring

Fingerprint, in detail

The whorls and ridges of one fingertip, carried around a satin titanium band. The print starts as an ink impression, taken with a kit we post out and returned to us, and it is reproduced at depth, so the lines are cut into the metal rather than drawn on it. On the hand it reads first as a fine, swirling texture, a little like the grain in wood, and only on a closer look as a person. The satin ground keeps the light soft, so the ridges show as shadow rather than glare. No two can match, because no two prints do.

How it wears

Titanium is by some way the lightest metal in the range, at about 4.5 g per cubic centimetre, so even a wide band sits almost unnoticed. It can pick up fine surface marks over time, and the print itself helps with that: a field of ridges breaks up the surface, so small scuffs blend into the pattern instead of standing out as they would on a plain face. Abrasive or heavy work is the one time it is worth taking off. Titanium is hypoallergenic.

Choosing yours

A print is detailed, so width shapes how it reads. Across 4 to 6mm the ridges sit close and the band looks textured; at 8 to 10mm the whorl opens out and is recognisably a fingerprint. Because the design pairs with itself, two bands can carry each other's prints, which turns a matching pair into an exchange. It suits anyone who finds plain bands too anonymous but wants nothing written on their ring, and a couple who like the idea that the ring could not have been made for anyone else.

Width by width

Each width this ring is made in
WidthHow it readsWeight, est.Price
4mm Slim, the quietest everyday width 1.5g £249
5mm Between slim and classic 1.8g £249
6mm Classic, the usual starting point for a band 2.2g £249
7mm Classic to broad, more of the pattern shows 2.5g £249
8mm Broad, a ring that is clearly there 2.9g £275
9mm Wide and bold, best on a larger hand 3.3g £275
10mm Wide and bold, best on a larger hand 3.6g £275

Weights are estimates for a plain band of the same width in titanium at UK size N with a 1.6mm wall, from the model in our ring weight calculator. A pattern cut into the surface removes a little metal, so the finished ring is slightly lighter. The price steps up at the widths that take more metal to make.

The metal, in brief

Titanium is by a distance the lightest metal we make rings in. At about 4.5 g per cubic centimetre it is under a third the reference density of 18ct yellow gold. GETi says it normally uses Grade 2 for its designs and reserves higher-tensile Grade 5 for tension-set rings, so the exact grade belongs in the specification of the ring rather than a range-wide claim.

Surface hardness Mohs 6, density 4.5 g/cm³, and hypoallergenic, so it is a sound choice for skin that reacts to nickel. It is not a precious metal, so it carries no hallmark.

Compared side by side: Anodised zirconium or titanium, Black zirconium or titanium, Sterling silver or titanium. Or read the full titanium guide.

About Fingerprint

Can this ring be resized?
Limited enlargement may be possible. GETi says grade 5 titanium cannot be stretched or compressed: machining the inside larger removes metal and cannot reduce the size. Wall thickness, stones and inlays limit that option. Grade 2 titanium has different possibilities, so check the actual grade and design. A remake may be offered instead; confirm what happens to the original ring, engraving and finish before agreeing.
Is engraving included?
Yes, and it is optional. Leave the box blank and the ring is made plain. If you do want one it is laser cut inside the band where the ring is made, rather than sent out to a third party, and there is no charge and no extra wait.
How long will it take?
2 to 3 weeks. It is made in your size after you order, not picked off a shelf, and that is the reason the widths and finishes are open choices.
Can I return it if I have it engraved?
Not for a change of mind. An engraving makes the ring clearly personalised, which puts it outside the statutory right to cancel, and it cannot be resold. Every ring shop draws the line here. Order it plain and you keep the full 30 days. Either way, a ring that arrives faulty or is not what you ordered is covered by the Consumer Rights Act, which nothing waives.
How much does the Fingerprint ring weigh?
About 1.5g at 4mm, 2.2g at 6mm, 3.6g at 10mm, estimated for a plain band in titanium at UK size N. Larger sizes and wider bands weigh more. It is a light ring by any standard: 18ct gold of the same size is more than twice the weight.
What widths does it come in, and do they cost the same?
4 to 10mm. 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 7mm are £249, and 8mm, 9mm, 10mm £275, because the wider bands take more metal to make.
What is closest to the Fingerprint in the range?
Celtic (titanium) and Runes, titanium (titanium). The comparison table on this page sets them side by side on metal, width, hardness and price.
What if I get the size wrong?
If it is unengraved, return it inside 30 days and we refund it, and we pay the postage. Use the free ring size finder first if you are unsure, and if the ring is a surprise, ask us and we will talk you through the ways to find out without asking them.
