How heavy will it be?
Weight is most of what people mean when they say a ring feels expensive, and on precious metal it is most of what you are paying for.
An estimate from volume times density, not a quote. Real rings vary with finishing and any stone, so treat it as within about ten percent.

- How much does a gold wedding ring weigh?
- A 4mm 18ct court band in a UK size N weighs roughly 5 to 6 grams. The same ring in 9ct weighs less because 9ct is a less dense alloy, and in platinum it weighs about a third more again.
- Why does ring weight matter?
- Weight is most of what people mean when they say a ring feels expensive, and on precious metal it is also most of what you are paying for. A wider or thicker band in the same metal costs more because there is simply more metal in it.
- Which ring metal is heaviest?
- Platinum, at 21.4 grams per cubic centimetre, followed by 18ct gold at about 15.6. Titanium is the lightest at 4.5, which is under a third of 18ct gold and about a fifth of platinum.
- Does a bigger ring size weigh more?
- Yes, and more than people expect. A size Z uses noticeably more metal than a size H at the same width and profile, which is why some jewellers price large sizes higher on precious metal.
- How is ring weight calculated?
- From the volume of metal multiplied by its density. Volume comes from the circumference at the size, the band width and the thickness, adjusted for the profile: a court band is rounded so it uses less metal than a flat band of the same dimensions.
