Wood inlay

From £375

Real wood, set into a titanium channel.

Stabilised hardwood inlaid into the band, so the grain is that piece of timber and no other. Chakte Kok runs deep red, African ebony nearly black, olive pale and streaked. It wants keeping out of long soaks, which is the one honest caveat.

About this ring

Wood inlay, in detail

A titanium band with a channel round the centre, filled with stabilised hardwood. The grain comes from one piece of timber, so no two rings carry the same figure. Eleven woods are offered: Chakte Kok, which runs deep red; African ebony, nearly black; olive, pale and streaked; and oak, black walnut, bocote, cocobolo, iroko, snakewood, thuya and ziricote besides. The satin titanium on either side frames the wood like a mount, so the timber is the subject and the metal its setting.

How it wears

The wood is stabilised hardwood, and the titanium around it is light, at about 4.5 grams per cubic centimetre, and hypoallergenic. The one real care point is water: the wood is best kept out of long soaks, so a long bath or a swim is a moment for the ring to come off. That aside it is an everyday ring. Titanium is around Mohs 6, and its satin finish absorbs the fine marks that daily wear brings.

Choosing yours

The wood is the decision. Chakte Kok for deep red, African ebony for something close to black, olive for pale wood streaked with darker grain; the rest of the eleven each bring a grain and tone of their own.

A wider band shows more timber, so 8 to 10mm suits someone who wants the wood to lead, while 4 to 6mm gives a fine line of grain. Two rings in the same wood make a matched pair; two different woods make a pair that still plainly belongs together.

WidthHow it readsWeight, est.Price
4mm Slim, the quietest everyday width 1.5g £375
5mm Between slim and classic 1.8g £375
6mm Classic, the usual starting point for a band 2.2g £375
7mm Classic to broad, more of the pattern shows 2.5g £375
8mm Broad, a ring that is clearly there 2.9g £400
9mm Wide and bold, best on a larger hand 3.3g £400
10mm Wide and bold, best on a larger hand 3.6g £400

Weights are estimates for a plain band of the same width in titanium at UK size N with a 1.6mm wall, from the model in our ring weight calculator. A pattern cut into the surface removes a little metal, so the finished ring is slightly lighter. The price steps up at the widths that take more metal to make.

The metal, in brief

Titanium is by a distance the lightest metal we make rings in. At about 4.5 g per cubic centimetre it is under a third the reference density of 18ct yellow gold. GETi says it normally uses Grade 2 for its designs and reserves higher-tensile Grade 5 for tension-set rings, so the exact grade belongs in the specification of the ring rather than a range-wide claim.

Surface hardness Mohs 6, density 4.5 g/cm³, and hypoallergenic, so it is a sound choice for skin that reacts to nickel. It is not a precious metal, so it carries no hallmark.

About Wood inlay

Can this ring be resized?
Limited enlargement may be possible. GETi says grade 5 titanium cannot be stretched or compressed: machining the inside larger removes metal and cannot reduce the size. Wall thickness, stones and inlays limit that option. Grade 2 titanium has different possibilities, so check the actual grade and design. A remake may be offered instead; confirm what happens to the original ring, engraving and finish before agreeing.
Is engraving included?
Yes, and it is optional. Leave the box blank and the ring is made plain. If you do want one it is laser cut inside the band where the ring is made, rather than sent out to a third party, and there is no charge and no extra wait.
How long will it take?
2 to 3 weeks. It is made in your size after you order, not picked off a shelf, and that is the reason the widths and finishes are open choices.
Can I return it if I have it engraved?
Not for a change of mind. An engraving makes the ring clearly personalised, which puts it outside the statutory right to cancel, and it cannot be resold. Every ring shop draws the line here. Order it plain and you keep the full 30 days. Either way, a ring that arrives faulty or is not what you ordered is covered by the Consumer Rights Act, which nothing waives.
How much does the Wood inlay ring weigh?
About 1.5g at 4mm, 2.2g at 6mm, 3.6g at 10mm, estimated for a plain band in titanium at UK size N. Larger sizes and wider bands weigh more. It is a light ring by any standard: 18ct gold of the same size is more than twice the weight.
What widths does it come in, and do they cost the same?
4 to 10mm. 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 7mm are £375, and 8mm, 9mm, 10mm £400, because the wider bands take more metal to make.
What is closest to the Wood inlay in the range?
Aztec, titanium (titanium) and Koi, titanium (titanium). The comparison table on this page sets them side by side on metal, width, hardness and price.
What if I get the size wrong?
If it is unengraved, return it inside 30 days and we refund it, and we pay the postage. Use the free ring size finder first if you are unsure, and if the ring is a surprise, ask us and we will talk you through the ways to find out without asking them.
