Natural diamond solitaire engagement ring

From £995

A mined diamond with a GIA report, chosen one stone at a time.

The stone most people picture, from the ground, graded H colour and VS clarity with excellent cut, polish and symmetry, and every one sold against its GIA report rather than a description. Under a carat is where a natural diamond still makes financial sense, and that is where this ladder starts. Four claws in 9ct gold as standard, with 14ct, 18ct and platinum, a halo and a set band as options.

About this ring

Natural diamond solitaire engagement ring, in detail

A mined diamond, raised in four claws over a slim 1.5mm band. The stone is graded H colour and VS clarity, with excellent cut, polish and symmetry, the grades that describe how well its facets were made and how cleanly they meet. Four claws leave it open to the light on every side, so it sits high and bright on the finger. Each stone is chosen one at a time and sold against its GIA report, so what is described is exactly what is set. Nothing about the band competes with it.

How it wears

Diamond is the top of the Mohs scale, 10, so the stone resists the marks of daily life. The gold around it is the softer partner: 9ct, at Mohs 3.5, gathers fine scratches over a year of wear and polishes back to bright. Claws raise the stone above the finger, which is what lets the light in, and also what lets it snag a jumper or knock a door frame, so it is a ring to set aside for sport, gardening and heavy work.

Choosing yours

The ladder starts at half a carat, where a natural diamond still makes good financial sense, and climbs from there; a larger stone gives the ring more presence.

9ct gold is standard, with 14ct, 18ct and platinum as options, as are a halo and a set band. Yellow or rose gold warms the setting; white gold or platinum keeps it cool. This is for someone who wants a stone from the ground with its report in hand; the Lab grown diamond solitaire is graded on the same scale for anyone who would rather a grown stone.

The metal, in brief

37.5% gold against 18ct's 75%, so roughly half the metal cost in a year when bullion set an all time record. It is also the harder alloy of the two, which matters more on a ring worn daily than the carat number does. Fully hallmarked, with resizing options that depend on the finished design, and a British standard that has been sold here for over a century.

Surface hardness Mohs 3.5, density 11.2 g/cm³. As a precious metal it is hallmarked under UK law.

About Natural diamond solitaire engagement ring

Can this ring be resized?
A plain 9ct gold band may suit conventional resizing, but the metal alone does not establish a safe size range. Stones, settings, pattern and condition can restrict an alteration; full eternity is not the only difficult design. GIA warns against stretching platinum bands containing stones. Have the finished ring assessed for the size and direction of change, and confirm the method, finish, cost and timing before work begins.
Do I see the stone before it is set?
Yes. Each stone is chosen individually against its laboratory report and we send you that report, with the stone's own grades and any treatment, before anything is set. If you would rather a different stone within the same grade we will find one.
Is engraving included?
Yes, and it is optional. Leave the box blank and the ring is made plain. If you do want one it is laser cut inside the band where the ring is made, rather than sent out to a third party, and there is no charge and no extra wait.
How long will it take?
About 4 weeks. The stone is sourced against its report, the mount is cast in your metal and size, and the ring is set, checked and hallmarked before it is posted insured.
Can I return it if I have it engraved?
Not for a change of mind. An engraving makes the ring clearly personalised, which puts it outside the statutory right to cancel, and it cannot be resold. Every ring shop draws the line here. Order it plain and you keep the full 14 days. Either way, a ring that arrives faulty or is not what you ordered is covered by the Consumer Rights Act, which nothing waives.
What is closest to the Natural diamond solitaire in the range?
Lab grown diamond solitaire (gold or platinum) and Ripple (9ct gold). The comparison table on this page sets them side by side on metal, width, hardness and price.
What if I get the size wrong?
If it is unengraved, return it inside 14 days and we refund it, and we pay the postage. Use the free ring size finder first if you are unsure, and if the ring is a surprise, ask us and we will talk you through the ways to find out without asking them.
