About this ring
Minimal edge, hers: 4mm in 9ct or 18ct gold, in detail
Four millimetres with the face cut into flat vertical facets, laid around the band like the planes of a cut stone, and a fine beaded line running along one edge. The facets switch the light on and off as the hand moves, one panel after another, while the beading adds a single thread of detail. That beaded edge is what separates hers from his: the Minimal edge, his has the same facets and leaves the edge plain, so the two read as a pair without being twins.
How it wears
Comfort fit inside means the inner edge is rounded rather than left square, so the band sits easily even when the hand is busy. The flat facets on 9ct gold, Mohs 3.5, will gather fine marks, but they spread across several planes rather than one face, so they show less than on a smooth band. The beaded line softens a little with time. At about 1.1g in 9ct it is light on the hand.
Choosing yours
One width, 4mm, in 9ct or 18ct. 18ct gives the facets a deeper colour and weighs about 1.5g; 9ct is lighter and the harder alloy. Worn alone it is a crisp, modern band with one decorative detail, slim enough to wear beside an engagement ring. Ordered with the Minimal edge, his it becomes a set, the same faceted face on both, with the beaded edge marking hers. It suits a couple who want matching rings that are not identical.
The width
| Width | How it reads |
|---|---|
| 4mm | Slim, the quietest everyday width |
Carat by carat
| Gold | Weight | Price, delivered |
|---|---|---|
| 9ct gold | About 1.1g | £529 |
| 18ct gold | About 1.5g | £735 |
The design and width are the same in each; the gold changes the colour depth, the weight and the hallmark. 9ct or 18ct gold, compared.
How it compares with the rings nearest it
| Ring | What sets it apart | Metal | Widths | Surface hardness | From |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimal edge, hers (this ring) | Flat vertical facets on both, and a fine beaded edge on hers. 4mm, sold alone or as a set. | 9ct gold | 4mm | Mohs 3.5 | £529 |
| Hammered gold | Hammered all over, so there is no mirror panel to keep perfect. | 9ct gold | 4mm | Mohs 3.5 | £529 |
| Faceted vega, hers | Broad flat facets that turn a round band into a soft polygon. 3mm, sold alone or as a set. | 9ct gold | 3mm | Mohs 3.5 | £525 |
| Soft ridge | The face rises to a gentle ridge, so the light runs along the finger. | 9ct gold | 3mm | Mohs 3.5 | £535 |
There are 32 9ct gold bands in the range, from £515 to £719. All about 9ct gold.
The metal, in brief
37.5% gold against 18ct's 75%, so roughly half the metal cost in a year when bullion set an all time record. It is also the harder alloy of the two, which matters more on a ring worn daily than the carat number does. Fully hallmarked, with resizing options that depend on the finished design, and a British standard that has been sold here for over a century.
Surface hardness Mohs 3.5, density 11.2 g/cm³. As a precious metal it is hallmarked under UK law.

About Minimal edge, hers: 4mm in 9ct or 18ct gold
- Can this ring be resized?
- A plain 9ct gold band may suit conventional resizing, but the metal alone does not establish a safe size range. Stones, settings, pattern and condition can restrict an alteration; full eternity is not the only difficult design. GIA warns against stretching platinum bands containing stones. Have the finished ring assessed for the size and direction of change, and confirm the method, finish, cost and timing before work begins.
- How long will it take?
- About 4 weeks. It is made in your size after you order rather than picked off a shelf, in the one width this design is made in.
- What is closest to the Minimal edge, hers in the range?
- Hammered gold (9ct gold) and Faceted vega, hers (9ct gold). The comparison table on this page sets them side by side on metal, width, hardness and price.
- What if I get the size wrong?
- Return it inside 14 days and we refund it, and we pay the postage. Use the free ring size finder first if you are unsure, and if the ring is a surprise, ask us and we will talk you through the ways to find out without asking them.
